Bath Iron Works Lays Keel for Future Zumwalt-class Destroyer USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002)

A keel laying and authentication ceremony for the future USS Lyndon B. Johnson (DDG 1002) was held Jan. 30 at General Dynamics-Bath Iron Works shipyard in Bath, Maine. The keel was authenticated by President Johnson’s daughters and ship co-sponsors, Ms. Lynda Johnson Robb and Ms. Luci Baines Johnson, by welding their initials into the keel plate. DDG 1002 will be the third and final Zumwalt-class Destroyer.

Royal Saudi Navy Al Madinah-class Frigate Damaged Following Attack by Houthi Militia Off Yemen

A Royal Saudi Navy Al Madinah-class Frigate has come under attack by Houthi militia yesterday while patrolling off the Western coast of Yemen in the Red Sea. The Houthis released an edited and low quality video of the attack as well as a statement mentionning a missile attack, but the Saudi-led coalition forces confirmed in a statement that the Frigate was attacked by three suicide boats.

HII Begins Fabrication of Last DDG 51 Flight IIA Destroyer Lenah H. Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123)

Huntington Ingalls Industries’ (HII) Ingalls Shipbuilding division officially started fabrication of the Arleigh Burke-class (DDG 51) destroyer Lenah H. Sutcliffe Higbee (DDG 123) on Wednesday. The start of fabrication signifies that the first 100 tons of steel have been cut. DDG 123 is the final ship in the Flight IIA series and the last of eight "Flight IIA Technology Insertion" Arleigh Burke-class destroyers.

The Philippines has deployed South Korea’s FA-50 supersonic fighter jets for the first time in combat, in a move to wipe out Islamic State(IS)-affiliated terror groups. Thailand Confirms Budget to Procure First of Three S26T Submarine from China

The Thai government has approved the purchase of a submarine from China for $ 380 million, Thai officials said on Wednesday. Last year, the government did not approve the sale. Upon approval from the cabinet, Thailand will order the submarine under a government-to-government deal. The total cost of the S26T submarine program which calls for three units will be USD $1.02 billion.

HAL has rolled out the first indigenously upgraded Hawk Mk132, named as Hawk-i on the eve of Republic Day celebrations. “This is the 100th Hawk aircraft produced at HAL and we are proud that it has Make in India mark. HAL had conceived a programme for indigenous upgradation of the Hawk Mk132 for achieving self-reliance and has successfully accomplished it”, says Mr. T. Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL. South Korea completes deployment of its 36 AH-64E Apache Guardian helicopters

South Korea completed the deployment of the latest upgraded model of AH-64 Apache combat helicopters, a military official said Friday, Jan. 27, 2017. The country's Defense Acquisition Procurement Administration (DAPA) signed a $1.6 billion contract with the U.S. in 2013 to buy 36 AH-64Es, an upgraded model of the AH-64D Longbow.

Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate HMS Westminster Returns to Sea After Missile & Radar Upgrade

The Royal Navy Type 23 Frigate HMS Westminster went back to sea after completing one of the longest, most comprehensive and complex revamps in the frigate’s 24-year life. More than 800 engineers, technicians and shipwrights from BAE Systems have swarmed over the ship in Portsmouth Naval Base to prepare her for the final decade of her life. The existing 996 radar and Seawolf air defence system have been replaced with the Artisan 3D radar and Sea Ceptor (also known as MBDA's CAMM).

Turkmenistan Coast Guard Vessel Spotted with SIMBAD-RC Short Range Naval Air Defence System

According to Turkmen media, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the country's maritime forces based in the city of Turkmenbashi on the Caspian Sea coast. Video: German Navy’s 1st F125 Frigate Baden-Württemberg Testing its 127mm & 27mm Gun Systems

The German Navy (Deutsche Marine) released a video showing the first F125 frigate testing its main and secondary naval gun systems off the coast off Heligoland (a small German archipelago in the North Sea). Viewers can see the “Baden-Württemberg” firing the Leonardo (formerly Oto Melara) 127/64 LW - Vulcano main gun as well as the Rheinmetall Defence MLG 27 remote weapon systems.

Video: ROC Navy - Taiwan Future Guided Missile Destroyer Revealed

Taiwan's National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) released an animation video showing the future guided-missile destroyer project for the Republic of China (Taiwan) Navy (ROC Navy) in combat. Renderings of this new project surfaced in June last year (as we reported). This new destroyer project is in line with Taiwan's new naval acquisition plan which was unveiled in late 2015. The new plan called for four new destroyers (among other vessels).

Four US Navy F-35Cs Lightning II Multirole Fighters Arrived in California for Permanent Basing

A new chapter in Navy history began today when four F-35Cs arrived at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California, joining the VFA-125 Rough Raiders and reestablishing them as a training squadron. Nearly 400 sailors, families and local civic leaders witnessed the arrival and the accompanying ceremony marking the occasion. NAS Lemoore is the first west coast naval installation to have F-35Cs permanently assigned and is the Navy’s only west coast Master Jet Base. By the end of 2017, the base will have 10 F-35Cs, building to more than 100 jets in the early 2020s.
