Raytheon starts transition to production planning of Gallium Nitride technology for AN/TPY-2 radars

The U.S. Missile Defense Agency has awarded Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) a contract modification to develop a transition to production process to incorporate Gallium Nitride, or GaN, components into existing and future AN/TPY-2 radars. This initial effort will support the transition from Gallium Arsenide to GaN technology, which would further modernize the ballistic missile defense radar and drive down system obsolescence.

Australian army will receive new back-pack electronic surveillance system

Australian Minister for Defence Industry, the Hon Christopher Pyne MP announced Thursday, September 29, 2016, that Defence has signed a contract that will provide Australian soldiers with a back-pack electronic surveillance system. The system use the assault back-packs designed by Army’s innovative Diggerworks. The transport and storage systems for the new back-pack systems will be provided by Victorian company Trimcast Pty Ltd.

Lockheed Martin Launches Vector Hawk UAV from Marlin UUV for the First Time

In a testament to the versatility and adaptability that its unmanned systems bring to complex missions, Lockheed Martin successfully launched Vector Hawk, a small, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), on command from the Marlin MK2 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) during a cross-domain command and control event hosted by the U.S. Navy. In addition to Marlin and Vector Hawk, the Submaran, an unmanned surface vehicle (USV) developed by Ocean Aero, provided surface reconnaissance and surveillance.

DCNS: Sea Trials for the Sixth FREMM multi-mission frigate, the Future Auvergne for the French Navy

DCNS announced that he French Navy (Marine Nationale)’s FREMM multi-mission frigate Auvergne set sail from the Lorient naval shipyard to begin sea trials on September 26th. The FREMM Auvergne is the sixth frigate in the programme and fourth of the series ordered by OCCAr on behalf of the DGA (the French defence procurement agency) for the French Navy.

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday, September 26, 2016, instructed the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Rocket Force to continue to build itself into a strong and modern rocket force. The PLA Rocket Force was established at the end of last year, part of a wider military structural reform drive. Xi conferred the military flag on the Rocket Force at its inauguration ceremony held in Beijing on Dec. 31, 2015.

French Navy Received the "Bougainville" Second of Four B2M Multi Mission Vessels

The Bougainville multi-mission vessel was delivered to the French Navy (Marine Nationale) on September 22 2016. It is the second B2M (for bâtiment multi-missions) vessel intended for the overseas missions of sovereignty. Bougainville will soon join its home port of Tahiti in the Pacific. First ship of the class D'Entrecasteaux recently joined its home port of Noumea in New Caledonia.

Russia’s aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov to join task force in Mediterranean Sea

The Project 11435 aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov will join the Russian Navy’s grouping in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said. "As of today, Russia’s grouping in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea comprises no less than six warships and three or four logistic support ships from all fleets," Shoigu said at a meeting of the Defense Ministry’s board.

China: Island Fitted to Second PLAN Aircraft Carrier "Type 001A"

Lithuania will purchase NASAMS Norwegian Advanced Surface to Air Defense Missile System

Lithuania plans to spend more than 100 million euros (112 million U.S. dollars) on Norwegian and American mid-range air defense systems NASAMS, the country's defense minister said on Sunday, September 25, 2016. French Navy Lafayette Class Frigates Crotale SAM Systems May Be Replaced with SADRAL

During the Euronaval 2016 press tour held last week, an MBDA representative explained that French Navy (Marine Nationale) Lafayette class frigates' existing Crotale SAM system may be replaced with SADRAL launchers. "It is one of the options being considered for the upgrade" the representative said. According to an update to the French Military Planning Law (Loie de Programmation Militaire) released in May 2015, the Lafayette-class is set to receive an upgrade in the near future.

Two self-propelled heavy field artillery battalions will have been activated before year-end in an artillery large unit of the Southern Military District, the district’s press office has told journalists. Plans provide for one of the battalions to be equipped with 240-mm Tyulpan self-propelled mortars and the other with 203-mm 2S7M Malka self-propelled guns.

U.S. Navy Approves MQ-4C Triton Unmanned Aircraft System for Low Rate Initial Production

The United States Department of the Navy announced the MQ-4C Triton unmanned aircraft system (UAS) built for the U.S. Navy by Northrop Grumman Corporation received milestone C approval, Sept. 22. This decision by Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L) Honorable Frank Kendall, allows the MQ-4C Triton program to enter into Low Rate Initial Production (LRIP), the first part of the production and deployment phase.

First Royal Australian Navy Air Warfare Destroyer Hobart successfully completes Builder Sea Trials

Today, the Air Warfare Destroyer Alliance achieved a major milestone with the successful completion of Builder Sea Trials for the first destroyer Hobart following several days at sea off the coast of South Australia. AWD Alliance General Manager Lloyd Beckett said that sea trials was the commencement of an exciting new phase for the Air Warfare Destroyer project.

Indonesia Marine Corps could purchase new version of BTR-4 amphibious armoured from Ukraine
