Lockheed Martin to integrate and test Aegis combat system aboard Royal Australian Navy

Lockheed Martin’s Integrated Test Team (ITT) begins Aegis combat system integration and testing aboard the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) first Aegis-equipped Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD), HOBART. The Aegis Combat System testing will be facilitated by Lockheed Martin engineers and technicians who are responsible for testing the Aegis Combat System to ensure the equipment is properly installed and functional.

East Siberia missile division to receive a regiment set of Yars intercontinental missile systems

A regimental set of Yars missile systems will be made operational with the missile division based in Irkutsk in East Siberia before the yearend, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office said in a press release obtained by TASS on Thursday.

More than 1,000 National and International Companies at DefExpo 2016 Defense Exhibition in India

More than 1,000 National and International companies attended DefExpo 2016, biennial defense exhibition of Land, Naval and Internal Homeland Security Systems which took place in Goa (India) from the 28 to 31 March 2016. With a total of 510 companies, participation by Indian companies has doubled since 2014 which saw a participation by 256 companies. A total of 490 foreign companies are participating this year against 368 in DefExpo 2014.

Russia pledged to supply military hardware to the Tunisian security forces amid ISIS threat

Russia is supposed to have pledged to supply helicopters, night vision systems and body armour to Tunisian security forces, fighting against al-Qaida and the Islamic State terroristic groups (both forbidden in Russia) in North Africa. It was revealed by Tunisian Foreign Minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui.

U.S. Army engineers work to create a new longer M777 155mm howitzer under the name M777ER

U.S. Picatinny Arsenal engineers have been working to create a longer, newly modified M777A2 howitzer under the project name of M777ER that has the potential to double the system’s current artillery range. The modification adds six feet (1.8 m) to the cannon and less than 1,000 pounds (450 kg) to the overall system. A mobility demonstration is the first step to determine if the howitzer can be modified for extended range, or if a new system is required.

Russian military is using Uran-6 mine clearance robot systems in the Syrian city of Palmyra

The Russian military is using Uran-6 robotic systems on its mine clearance operation in the Syrian city of Palmyra, the Russian Defense Ministry’s press office has told journalists in a briefing. "The combat engineer detachment [deployed to Syria] includes a canine element with dogs trained to sniff out high explosives. Advanced Uran-6 robotic systems will be used during the demining," the press office said.

U.S. Army to increase number of troops with Armourd Brigade Combat Teams in Eastern Europe

The U.S. Army has confirmed that in February 2017, it will rotate its troops belonging to its Armoured Brigade Combat Teams in (ABCT) Eastern Europe. The U.S. Army’s website says that the U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) will begin receiving continuous troop rotations of the ABCT in February 2017.

DIMDEX 2016: MBDA Signs a MoU to Supply Coastal Missile Systems to Qatar

MBDA has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the supply of a coastal defence system for the Qatar Emiri Naval Force (QENF). This Memorandum will pave the way in the short term for a contract with the value of 2.64 billion Qatari riyals (in the region of 640 million euros).

German Company Dhiel Defense has developed new countermeasure system HPEM against UAVs.

Dhiel Defence has developed a new counter system HPEM (High-Power Electro-Magnetics) against mini-drones by using electro-magnetic pulses instead of radio signals or GPS spoofing. Diehl’s HEPM disables the mini-drone’s controls, causing mission abort and automatically triggering the fail-safe function.

BAE Systems contract to refurbish 262 CV90 tracked combat vehicles for Swedish Army.

The Swedish government has awarded BAE Systems a contract to refurbish 262 Combat Vehicles 90 (CV90) for the Swedish Army. The company’s work will include refurbishing the chassis and upgrading the vehicle’s survivability and turrets, as well as enhancing combat system performance. Russian company Almaz-Antey to invest $1,7 billion to build new facilities

The Almaz-Antey Corporation’s investment in building new facilities in Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov and St. Petersburg have totaled around 120 billion rubles ($1.7 billion), the corporation’s director general, Yan Novikov, told journalists on Wednesday.

DIMDEX 2016: Austal Designed & Built T-EPF Forward Deployed To US Navy 5th Fleet In Bahrain

Austal has welcomed news that Expeditionary Fast Transport 2 (T-EPF-2), USNS Choctaw County, has been forward deployed to the US Navy 5th Fleet in Bahrain. The 103m USNS Choctaw County arrived in NSA Bahrain in February and is the first ship of its kind to operate in the US Navy’s Naval Forces Central Command area - which includes the Arabian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, North Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
