A commissioning, naming and flag-presenting ceremony of the new Gaoyouhu fleet replenishment oiler (hull number 966) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) was held solemnly at the Zhoushan naval base in east China’s Zhejiang province. The event means that the vessel is officially commissioned in the PLAN.

India on Thursday, January 28, 2016, test fired its indigenously-developed surface-to-air Akash missile as part of a user trial from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur. The missiles, with a strike range of 25 km and capability to carry warhead of 60 kg, were test fired from 11 AM to 2 PM from the launch complex-3 of the ITR.

A small version of the Russian-Indian cruise missile Brahmos can be launched from submarine torpedo tubes, CEO of the Machine-Building Scientific and Production Association Alexander Leonov said on Friday. The Machine-Building Scientific and Production Association is taking part in developing the Brahmos missile.
The Russian Defense Ministry is increasing its force to be stationed in the Arctic, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the session of the Defense Ministry Board. "The build-up of the forces being deployed there to be stationed permanently is under way," the minister said.

After securing a multibillion-dollar project to produce homegrown fighter jets late last year, the South Korea's sole aircraft manufacturer Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) said Thursday it would expand its global business, focusing on a U.S. program that plans to buy about 350 trainer aircraft.

Egypt received three more Rafale fighter jets from France on Thursday, the second batch of a deal signed in February 2015, said an Egyptian military spokesman. "The deal includes handing Egypt 24 Rafale warplanes and a FREMM multi-mission frigate," Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said in a statement.

The UK MOD announced that over the next five years, the MOD’s Navigation Radar Programme will replace existing radars fitted across the Royal Navy fleet and shore facilities with solid-state SharpEye™ radar transceivers designed and developed in the UK by Kelvin Hughes in Enfield North London. General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has signed a contract with the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistic Organisation (DALO) for the delivery of 309 Piranha 5 8x8 Armoured Personal Carriers (APC) in six variants (Infantry, Command, Ambulance, Engineer, Mortar and Repair), as well as a multi-year sustainment contract for the through life support of the vehicles in the future.

The U.S. Navy Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (COMNAVSURFPAC) just released a video to illustrate the Distributed Lethality Concept. The distributed lethality concept was introduced (and is being advocated) by Vice Admiral Thomas Rowden, the Commander of the U.S. Navy's surface forces. It can be summarized by fitting more weapons on more vessels in order to "deceive the enemy, target the enemy, and destroy the enemy".

The Northern Fleet’s nuclear-powered submarine Orel recently damaged by fire at the Zvyozdochka Shipyard in Severodvinsk in north Russia will join the Russian Navy before the end of 2016 after repairs, shipyard spokesman Yevgeny Gladyshev told TASS on Wednesday. Orel (K-266) is a Project 949A Antey nuclear-powered cruise missile submarine (SSGN) (NATO designation: Oscar II).

"On January 14th, the last three helicopters were delivered to Peru by An-124 aircraft.
