United States has authorized first deploymentt of 50 U.S. Special Forces in Syria

President Barack Obama has authorized the first deployment of U.S. special forces to Syria, officials said Friday, October 31, 2015. U.S. and coalition military forces have continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve.

The budget spent by Russia on nuclear weapons will grow by almost $62 million in 2016

Taiwan has grounded its AH-64E Apache attack helicopters

Taiwan has grounded its fleet of 29 Boeing AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopters, as a result of corrosion, according to a Taipei Times report. Major General Huang Kuo-ming, who is the commander of the Army Aviation Special Forces Command, said that after a preliminary assessment they found extensive oxidation in the metal components of the tail rotor gearbox.

Taiwan plans to purchase 10 MH-60R Seahawk ASW helicopters

Taiwan's military yesterday confirmed that it is seeking to buy 10 MH-60R Seahawk anti-submarine warfare helicopters from the U.S. to replace its existing aging chopper fleet. India MoD cleared purchase of 363 new BMP-2 IFVs and two Pinaka MLRS regiments

New task force planned by South Korea to take charge of KF-X fighter development program

South Korea plans to launch a new project team which will take charge of the faltering fighter jet development program before the end of this year, an official from the country's Ministry of National Defense said Wednesday. "For the success of the KF-X project, which is invested with huge funds and spawned technology development controversy, the project team will be established under the wing of the head of the Defense Acquisition Program Administration," the official said.

QinetiQ to evaluate upgrade to RAF Chinook Automatic Flight Control System

QinetiQ has been awarded a GPB5.2 million (USD 8mn) contract from the British Ministry of Defence in order to evaluate the possibility of an upgrade to the CH-47 Chinook’s Automatic Flight Control System. Turkey officially gifts 34 T-37 trainer aircraft to Pakistan

Government of Turkey announced to provide Pakistan 34 T-37 training and light attack training aircraft and its spare parts on a free basis. Lockheed Martin received a $76 million contract from the U.S. Air Force for follow-on production of Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb (LGB) kits. The contract represents the majority share of fiscal year 2015 funding, as well as 100 percent of available funding for Foreign Military Sales. Deliveries will begin in the second quarter of 2016 and include the guidance and tail assemblies for GBU-10 and GBU-12 LGBs.

NAVAIR grants Orbital ATK a $426mn contract for FMU-139D/B fuzes development

Orbital ATK announced yesterday, Oct. 28, that it has received an award totaling $426 million for first article test and qualification and production of FMU-139D/B fuzes and fuze accessories. Japan achieves deployment of its 24 Patriot air defense missile batteries

Japan has completed the deployment of 24 Patriot missiles at 15 bases around the nation to guard against possible ballistic missile launches by North Korea. Japan's Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that it deployed two Patriot missiles at its Air Self-Defense Force base in Chitose, Hokkaido, completing the nation’s Patriot missile installation project, which it undertook in 2004.

Australian and New Zealand forces about to train another 2000 Iraqi soldiers

With over 2100 Iraqi Army soldiers and officers trained by Australian and New Zealand forces in Iraq the combined Task Group prepares to train another 2000 soldiers. The 1st Battalion, 71st Iraqi Army Brigade, who completed approximately two weeks of training in June, returned with the remainder of the 71st Iraqi Army Brigade in late September to commence training.

Modern Orlan-10 unmanned air reconnaissance vehicles (UARV) have arrived for the Russian military base in Armenia, the Southern Military District’s press office said on Wednesday, October 28, 2015. The reconnaissance unit will use Orlan-10 UARVs to track targets of varying size in high mountainous terrain.

US plans to deliver four light ISR planes to Jordan for border surveillance missions

US plans to deliver four small ISR aircraft to the Royal Jordanian Armed Forces, the USAF announced in a "Justification and Approval document" on Oct. 21, 2015. According to this J&A document, the four aircraft are now heading to a new home with the RJAF. The 645th Aeronautical Systems Group and defense contractor L-3 Communications are to fit powerful cameras and other gear onto four heavily modified AT-802 crop-dusters originally purchased for Yemen.

Russia's Bal-E coastal defense system to be equipped with upgraded Kh-35 missile

The Bal coastal defense system will be equipped with an upgraded version of the Kh-35E missile, Morinformsystem-Agat Group CEO and General Designer Georgy Antsev told TASS on Tuesday. Morinformsystem-Agat naval weapons developer is upgrading the Bal coastal defense missile system. The system will receive a modernized missile, which has a range of up to 300 kilometers (186 miles) and can be guided via unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), he added.

Russia will supply six battalions of Russian-made S-400 air defense missile systems to China

Rosoboronexport, the Russian state agency for export of armament will supply S-400 air defense missile systems to China without delays, Anatoly Isaikin, Rosoboronexport Director General, confidently stated today, October 27, 2015. According to the Time of India, China has ordered no fewer than six battalions of S-400 with a total value US$ 3 billion. The first S-400 systems for China are scheduled for delivery in 2017.

First KC-46 out of Boeing to conduct tests with the USAF

Boeing’s first test KC-46A aircraft has arrived at USAF’s Edwards Air Force Base where it is scheduled to carry out a series of tests in cooperation with the 418th Flight Test Squadron. These include Ground Effects and Fuel Onload Fatigue testing of the platform, which are expected to last for a period of two weeks. The platform has arrived in California, from Seattle, with a combined Boeing and USAF crew of pilots and engineers.

Canada to start a new fighter competition programme

The new Canadian government intends to start from scratch the programme for the new fighter aircraft to replace the Boeing CF-18, according to Reuters. The newly elected Liberals have decided to scrap the Lockheed Martin F-35 acquisition plans and seek a more affordable solution. A new request for proposals will be issued along with a new list of specifications that will have nothing to do with the previously submitted bids.

Russian new aerial refueling aircraft, Il-78M-90A, can additionally carry up to 110 tons of fuel thanks to two extra tanks, Sergei Dementyev, Aviastar-SP Company’s Director-General, reported. "The next year’s job is to send the Il-78M-90A into the air. This is the first flying prototype to undergo acceptance trials. We look forward to signing a contract based on results obtained," he noted.
