International manufacturer of award-winning panoramic infrared thermal imaging systems, HGH Infrared Systems, have been selected by the British Navy to incorporate their Spynel-S 3500 into an integrated Compact Combat System (C2S) for situational awareness and ship-based protection against small fast inshore attack crafts (FIACs). The innovative system has already been tested in trials in the UK and will be used in part towards securing war ships in perilous locations.

Iraq plans to acquire 500 and Saudi Arabia 950 BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles from Russia, Albert Bakov, first vice president and co-owner of the Tractor Works Concern, the manufacturer of this armoured vehicle. The BMP-3 is in service with many countries including United Arab Emirates, Cyprus, Indonesia, Kuwait and South Korea.

According to Tractor Plants Concern official, the Russian Defense Ministry could allocate extra funding for developing the new version of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle, under the name of BMP-3 Dragoon or Dragun. The vehicle was unveiled for the first time during the Russia Arms Expo 2015 that took place in Nizhny Tagil (Russia) from the 9 to 12 September 2015.

Harris Corporation has been awarded a single-source IDIQ contract with a ceiling value of $390 million to supply a new specialized handheld tactical radio to U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF). The IDIQ contract consists of a five-year base and an additional one-year option.
India is finally set to get its own mobile howitzers that will reverse the longheld Pakistani battlefield edge on artillery guns. The guns Pakistan have were supplied by the US ostensibly for the 'war on terror'. In a deal that would also fit the 'Make in India' mandate, domestic manufacturer Larsen and Toubro has emerged as the finalist for a $750-million contract to supply 100 self-propelled artillery guns to the Indian Army.

The Swedish defence and security company Saab has today signed a contract with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence to supply a new advanced training system for the Austrian army. The order value is approximately SEK180 million ($21.5 mn) and deliveries are planned from 2015 to 2018. Production will take place in Huskvarna.

INS ‘Kochi’ was commissioned by the Hon'ble Defence Minister, Shri Manohar Parrikar, at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai, on 30 September 2015. Kochi is the second ship of the Kolkata-class (Project 15A) Guided Missile Destroyers. The contract for three ships of Kolkata class was signed as follow-on of the Delhi Class Destroyers, which were commissioned into the Indian Navy more than a decade ago.
The Canadian Rangers are bidding adieu to the hunting rifle that has served them well for nearly 70 years and reactions to its replacement are positive. The new prototype rifle, the C-19, was designed by Finland’s Sako, based on its Tikka T3 CTR model. Manufacturing will be done by Colt Canada.

The Russian Navy Northern Fleet missile cruiser Marshal Ustinov, currently undergoing repairs and modernization at the Zvyozdochka defense shipyard in Severodvinsk, northwest Russia, will be armed with a new missile system and will be back in service again in 2016, the enterprise’s general director Nikolay Kalistratov said Tuesday. The Marshal Ustinov, a Slava-class missile cruiser, was launched in 1982 and commissioned with the Russian Northern Fleet in 1986. It has been undergoing a refit at the Zvezdochka shipyard in northern Russia since 2011.

DARPA’s Towed Airborne Lift of Naval Systems (TALONS) research effort recently demonstrated a prototype of a low-cost, fully automated parafoil system designed to extend maritime vessels’ long-distance communications and improve their domain awareness. Towed behind boats or ships, TALONS could carry intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and communications payloads of up to 150 pounds between 500 and 1,500 feet in altitude—many times higher than current ships’ masts—and greatly extend the equipment’s range and effectiveness.

Hundreds of British soldiers will be sent to Africa to help counter the threat of Islamist extremists in the region, the UK Prime Minister David Cameron has said. Chinese media recently released pictures showing the fourth People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN or Chinese Navy) Type 071 amphibious transport dock LPD Yimeng Shan (hull number 978) on sea trials. Yimeng Shan was built Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, a wholly owned subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC, the largest shipbuilding group in China) as was the case for the first three Type 071 vessels. It was launched in January this year.
Textron Marine & Land Systems has been awarded a $56,176,864 foreign military sales contract for 55 Mobile Strike Force vehicles with related fielding hardware and field service representative services for system deprocessing. U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale announced Wednesday, September 23, 2015, additional funds for the military and expressed his country’s ongoing support for the Lebanese army. The U.S. Navy announced that the delivery of Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), first ship of the new Ford class of aircraft carriers, will be delayed six to eight weeks as more tests are needed before the vessel can start its sea trials campaign. The original delivery date was set for March 31, 2016.
On 15 September Norway and Australia signed an agreement where Australia will finance the development of a new capability for the seeker in the Joint Strike Missile (JSM, the air launched variant of the NSM - Naval Strike Missile), developed by Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence Systems (KDA). If Australia later decides to procure the JSM, then Norway and Australia will share the cost of integrating the JSM on the F-35.

Sunday, September 29, 2015, France has carried out its first airstrikes against Islamic State militants in Syria. France, which has so far only taken part in strikes in Iraq, began reconnaissance flights over Syria earlier this month in order to gather information on Islamic State positions.

Rheinmetall to manufacture turret structure of AJAX reconnaissance fighting vehicle for British army
Lockheed Martin UK has contracted with Rheinmetall’s Defence arm to manufacture the turret structures for the British Army’s new Scout SV Reconnaissance vehicle noxw called AJAX. The order, issued in London, is worth a total of €130 million and covers production of up to 245 units. Rheinmetall also participated significantly in the preceeding technical demonstration phase.
