Damen introduces the new "2nd Generation OPV" to meet demand for multi-mission platforms

This new generation of re-configurable Damen OPVs is highly efficient and incredibly versatile. Damen’s famous Sea Axe hull shape is used for these 2nd generation OPVs. Due to this hulldesign, these vessels demonstrate superior seakeeping including exceptional low heave accelerations. This makes the vessel very comfortable, even in stormy sea states. Since the hull is designed to reduce water resistance, the new OPV is also very fuel efficient and capable of speeds up to 25/26 knots. 

Dassault's Rafale fighter successfully performed first guided firing of a Meteor missile

On 28th April 2015, teams from the French Ministry of Defence, Dassault Aviation and MBDA carried out the first guided firing of the long-range Meteor missile against an air target from a Rafale combat aircraft. The firing, from a Rafale prepared at the DGA’s Cazaux Flight Test Centre (near Bordeaux, S.W. France), proceeded successfully within the secured zone of the DGA Essais de Missiles (previously Centre d'Essais des Landes) in Biscarosse (also near Bordeaux).

French Navy Test Launched a MU90 Torpedo from its ATL2 Maritime Patrol Aircraft

The French Navy released a picture showing one of its ATL2 (Breguet/Dassault Atlantique 2) Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) launching a MU90 torpedo. The MPA belongs to the Flotille (naval air squadron) 21F based in Lann-Bihoué (Britanny) and the trial was conducted at the French procurement agency (DGA) maritime test field in the Mediterranean Sea. The first even MU90 torpedo launch from an ATL2 took place in April 2011.

Raytheon receives $20 mn from DARPA to continue air-launched hypersonic missile development

The US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) granted defense company Raytheon a $20 million contract to develop technology that will allow missile guidance systems to fly more than five times faster than the speed of sound, Raytheon said in a press release on Wednesday, April 29.

Good things come in threes: Qatar becomes the 3rd export customer of the Dassault Rafale

According to an official statement by the French presidency, Qatar announced today its intention to purchase the Dassault Rafale multirole fighter aircraft, for a total amount of about 6.3 billion euros ($7.06 billion). Upgraded D variant of China's Shenyang J-11 fighter aircraft performed maiden flight

The upgraded D variant of China’s J-11 fighter jet has made its maiden flight, Chinese media reported. The jet reportedly has new radar and an air refueling system. The J-11D model, which was tested in the air for the first time on Wednesday, is an upgraded variant, based on the J-11B, with an AESA radar and more composite materials. Its radar, EW systems, FBW systems, and communications equipment are the same as those aboard the Shenyang J-16.

Defence agreement signed between Italy and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Jordan and Italy, on Wednesday April 29, inked a deal to cement military cooperation between the two countries in areas of training, armament manufacturing and exchange of expertise among others. The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, the King's Adviser for Military Affairs, Gen. Mashal al-Zabin, and Italy's Defence Minister, Roberta Pinotti.

KRET starts equipping Russia's Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters with Strapdown Inertial Navigation System

Radioelectronic Technologies Concern "KRET", part of Rostec State Corporation, has started equipping Russia's Mi-8AMTSh-VA helicopters with the strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS). This is the first time SINS is installed on an indigenous helicopter. The new system will allow the helicopters to navigate and perform tasks under extreme conditions of the Far North, KRET’s press-service reports.

Russian Government official news agency TASS is reporting that deck-based fighter jets of Russia’s Northern Fleet held tactical exercises with air-to-air missile launches over the Barents Sea.

Libyan National Army reportedly received four Mi-35P gunship helicopters

According to local media, four new combat helicopters have been delivered to the Libyan National Army. They are said to have arrived in Marj two days ago. Pictures released on social medias seem to show that the helicopters delivered are the Russian-made Mi-24P "Hind-F" and are said to have been delivered from the United Arab Emirates, reported yesterday, April 28, the Libyan online newspaper Libya Herald.

France to raise defence budget by €3.8 billion from 2016-2019

Russian Navy Pacific Fleet Received and Tested Its First "BAL" Coastal Missile System

The Russian Navy just announced that the Pacific Fleet (PF) Coastal Troops’ formation held the first launch from the new missile system ‘Bal’, which came into the brigade’service at the end of last year. EXACTO Guided bullet demonstrates repeatable performance against moving targets

DARPA’s Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordnance (EXACTO) program, which developed a self-steering bullet to increase hit rates for difficult, long-distance shots, completed in February its most successful round of live-fire tests to date. An experienced shooter using the technology demonstration system repeatedly hit moving and evading targets. Additionally, a novice shooter using the system for the first time hit a moving target.

U.S. approves $1.5 bn support contract for RAAF F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler fleets

The U.S. State Department has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale to Australia for F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and future fleet of EA-18G Growler Aircraft Sustainment and associated equipment, parts and logistical support for an estimated cost of $1.5 billion. Fincantieri Delivered the fourth FREMM Frigate “Carabiniere” to the Italian Navy

The frigate “Carabiniere” was delivered today at the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard. It is the fourth vessel of the FREMM program – Multi Mission European Frigates - commissioned to Fincantieri within the international Italian-French program, coordinated by OCCAR (the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation). Bolivia to purchase 40,000 last generation assault rifles

Bolivia wants to buy 40,000 assault rifles to modernize in fantry units. Since 1979, soldiers's rifles have never been renewed. A quarter of the 40,000 new weapons will be placed in reserve while the rest will go the infantry units.

US Navy Tested the MAGIC CARPET Software to Assist F/A-18E/F/G Landing on Aircraft Carriers

The US Navy recently field-tested its new Maritime Augmented Guidance with Integrated Controls for Carrier Approach and Recovery Precision Enabling Technologies (MAGIC CARPET) software. The Indian Air Force is likely to get four more indigenously made light combat aircraft Tejas by the end of the current financial year from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, National Aerospace Laboratories' Director Shyam Chetty has said. "The four aircraft may adhere to international standards on end-to-end accuracy," Chetty said, adding, further research was on to meet the parameters stipulated by the IAF.

Bulgaria's government should allocate more money to defense, President Rosen Plevneliev's Defense and Security Secretary Atanas Samandov has said. Indian indigenously built Dhanush 155mm howitzer successfully pass technical tests

The indigenously designed and manufactured 155/45 calibre artillery gun, Dhanush has successfully met all technical parameters during the winter and summer trials. Rheinmetall to upgrade NH90 Helicopter Cockpit Trainer for the German Bundeswehr

The German Bundeswehr is currently upgrading its helicopter training programme with simulation technology from Rheinmetall. In March 2015 the Simulation and Training business unit of Rheinmetall Defence was awarded a contract from Germany’s BAAINBw defence procurement agency to upgrade all NH90 Cockpit Trainer to IOC+ configuration and with additional software modules from Rheinmetall’s Asterion product line.

T-14 Armata could receive network-centric warfare equipment, according Russian media

According Russian media, the new T-14 Armata main battle tank could be fitted with network-centric warfare equipment. Some others new vehicles of Russian Army, that will be unveiled during the 2015 Moscow Victory Day Parade, such as Kurganets-25 light tracked armored infantry fighting vehicles, Bumerang 8x8 armored personnel carrier or Typhoon armored personnel carriers could also be fitted with that equipment.
