The Royal Thai Army is considering the purchase of two new types of multiple rocket launcher systems from China, according to the Canada-based Kanwa Defense Weekly. According to Chinese source, Thailand is likely to import WS-1B and WS-32 launchers from China, which will be renamed the DTI-1 and the DTI-1G respectively.

Russia gives green light to sell S-400 air defense missile systems to China.

Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, has given a green light to sell the country's newest S-400 air defense guided missile system to China, which Russian media claim will give Beijing an edge in the airspace of the Taiwan Strait and over islands in the East China Sea. 
The Russian-made S-400 air defense missile system can simultaneously engage 36 targets.

New modernized version of LAV-AT Anti-Tank armoured enhances capability of U.S. Marines.

Development of the LAV-ATs has already successfully met threshold testing as four of the prototypes have fired 14 missiles at government facilities. In mid-March, the vehicles were put through a swim test and landing craft air cushion tests at the Amphibious Vehicle Test Branch at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Philippines looks to acquire Raytheon MIM-23 HAWK surface-to-air defense missile system.

The Philippines Department of National Defense (DND) is looking at the possibility of acquiring improved and enhanced versions of the Raytheon MIM-23 HAWK (Homing All the Way Killer) surface-to-air missiles (SAMs).
The MIM-23B HAWK has has a minimum engagement range of 1.5 kilometres, a maximum range of 35 km, a minimum engagement altitude of 60 metres, a maximum engagement altitude of 18,000 m and a warhead of 75 kg HE blast/fragmentation.

Cassidian Optronics of Germany to supply vision equipment for Leopard 2A7+ and PzH 2000.

Cassidian Optronics GmbH, a subsidiary of Airbus Defence and Space, has received an order valued at more than 40 million euros from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG and Rheinmetall Defence Electronics GmbH, for the supply of vision equipment. The optical and optronic equipment will be integrated into Leopard 2 A7+ main battle tanks and PzH 2000 self-propelled howitzers operated by customers in the Middle East region.

E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne early warning aircraft joins the U.S. Navy Fleet

The E-2D Advanced Hawkeye officially became ready for tasking with Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125 (VAW-125) during a ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field, March 27. "This is a revolutionary jump in capabilities," said Capt. Todd Watkins, commander, Airborne Command Control and Logistics Wing. "The E-2D serves as the eyes of the fleet. If it's out there, we will see it."

MBDA to develop FASGW(H)/ANL, next generation anglo-french anti-ship missile

MBDA welcomes the signature of the Demonstration and Manufacture contract for the FASGW(H)/ANL (Future Anti Surface Guided Weapon (Heavy)/ Anti Navire Léger) missile on 27th March 2014. This jointly funded Anglo-French contract, valued at more than £500 million (€600 million) has been awarded to MBDA by the UK DE&S (Defence Equipment & Support) on behalf of the French and UK MODs and will be managed as part of MBDA’s Team Complex Weapons Portfolio. The work will complete the joint assessment and missile design work funded by the two nations in cooperation since 2009.

MTU showcases the new Series 1600 marine genset at DIMDEX 2014

At DIMDEX, the exhibition for maritime defense, taking place in Quatar from 25 to 27 March (booth H4-50) Rolls-Royce Power Systems unveils its new marine genset carrying the MTU brand. The genset is based on a 6-cylinder Series 1600 inline engine delivering up to 323 kW output and compliant with IMO Tier II and EPA Tier 3 regulations. The marine engine version is configured for on-board power generation and is derived from the highly robust and cost-efficient Series 1600 unit used for power generation on land.

Wednesday, March 26, 2014, North Korea test-fired two ballistic missiles No-Dong 1 (also named Rodong) into the sea off its east coast Korea fired the midrange missiles -- one at 2:35 a.m. and the other at 2:42 a.m.-- from the Sukchon region, north of Pyongyang, which flew about 650 kilometers before dropping into the East Sea, South Korean defense ministry spokesman Kim Min-seok said in an emergency briefing. 
The No-Dong-A (also named No-Dong 1 or Rodong 1) is a medium range ballistic missile based on the technology of the Russian-made ballistic missile Scud-D.

All military units stationed in Crimea are now under the control of the Russian military, and remaining Ukrainian servicemen are departing the peninsula, the region’s first deputy prime minister, Rustam Temirgaliyev, said on Monday, March 24, 2014.
At this moment there are around 25.000 Russian troops on the territory of Crimea and Eastern regions. About 11.000 represent the Black Sea fleet of Russian Federation.

Damen-built Joint Support Ship Karel Doorman commissioned for the Royal Netherlands Navy

On Saturday, March 8th, Dutch Defence Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert ceremonially named the Karel Doorman, the new Joint Support Ship for the Royal Netherlands Navy. The ceremony took place in Vlissingen at the shipyard operated by Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding. With a length of 204.7 metres, the Karel Doorman is the biggest ship in the Dutch navy.

Russian troops took the control of another Ukranian military base in the city of Fedosia. The military operation started at about 4:15 a.m. on March 24, with dull explosions echoing over Feodosia. Russian soldiers and Russian-backed Crimean self-defense forces threw stun grenades into the territory of the military base of the the 1st Detached Feodosia Battalion of Marines.
