French Army takes delivery of SAMP-T Mamba air defense missile system to equip on more unit.

In January 2014, PAAMS (Principal Anti Air Missile System) Programme Division accepted delivery of the penultimate French SAMP/T “MAMBA” system and subsequently transferred it to the French Air Force Ground Based Air Defence Squadron 01.950 “CRAU”. 
The SAMP-T system is able to track 100 trajectories and engage 10 targets at the same time on 360°.

DCNS delivers multimission frigate Mohammed VI to Royal Moroccan Navy

The handover ceremony was held in Brest in the presence of His Excellency Prince Moulay Rachid El Alaoui, brother of the King of Morocco, Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French Minister of Defence and Patrick Boissier, Chairman & CEO of DCNS. The Mohammed VI, named in honour of the Moroccan sovereign, is the first vessel from the Group’s FREMM range of multimission frigates to be acquired by an international customer.

First P18N Offshore Patrol Vessel for Nigerian Navy launched at shipyard in China

On January 27, 2014 the first of two P-18N offshore patrol vessels (OPV) ordered by the Nigerian Navy was launched at the China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company (CSOC) at Wuchang Shipyard in Wuhan, China. Turkey to extend deadline to send revised offers for the purchase of air defense missile system.

Turkey has again extended the deadline for bidding companies to send revised offers for its anti-ballistic missile air defense system. The new deadline for rival bidding companies to submit their proposals is April 30, allowing U.S. company Raytheon Co and Lockheed Martin Corp and Italian-French team Eurosam SAMP/T to revise their offers and try to head off a Chinese company, with which Turkey is still in talks.

United States Marine Corps begins testing P-19R Oshkosh Defense firefighting vehicle.

Pakistan’s defence production sector has the capability of manufacturing up to 50 battle tanks annually whereas 1,598 sophisticated guns are being manufactured in the Pakistani ammunition factories, a Senate panel was informed Tuesday, January 28, 2014.

Finland to acquire FIM-92 Stinger man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems from United States.

Finland is ready to acquire hundreds of FIM-92 Stinger (MANPADS) anti-aircraft missiles from the United States, Carl Haglund (SFP), the Minister of Defence, announced to US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel as the two met in Washington on Thursday, January 23, 2014.
FIM-92 Stinger is a man-portable infrared homing anti-aircraft missile system produced by Raytheon Missile Systems. It has a range of 4,800 meters and can hit aircraft at altitudes up to 3,800 m.

The first two MH-60R Seahawk Romeo maritime combat helicopters were accepted by the Royal Australian Navy at an ‘In Service Date’ ceremony conducted by NUSQN 725 at Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida on the 24th January. The first two of twenty-four airframes on order from Sikorsky and Lockheed Martin, were delivered to the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) in early December 2013.

New Armata universal combat vehicle platform equipped with radar as the T-50 fighter aircraft.

TATA Motors to unveil WhAP 8x8 Wheeled Armoured Platform at Defexpo 2014.

Tata Motors will be unveiling a brand new specialty vehicle, the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) at Defexpo 2014 next month. The vehicle platform, developed jointly with the DRDO's Vehicle Research & Development Establishment (VRDE) in Pune, is a mobility platform featuring a Norwegian-built Kongsberg MCT-30-R medium-calibre remote turret sporting a US-built ATK 30mm/40mm Mk44 Bushmaster automatic cannon as a primary weapon and a secondary FN Herstal M240 7.62mm general purpose machine gun.

Army of China has test-fired its home-made DF-21 medium range nuclear capable ballistic missile.

 China’s military has released images January 22, 2014, of its home-made ballistic missile. The pictures were taken during test-fired with the Dong Feng DF-21 nuclear capable single-warhead medium-range ballistic missile. The People's Liberation Army could be defeated in a potential nuclear war between China and the United States in just one hour, according to the Moscow-based Expert magazine.

Northrop Grumman-Built Maritime Surveillance Demonstrator Surpasses 10,000 Combat Flying Hours

The Northrop Grumman Corporation built unmanned demonstrator aircraft used for maritime surveillance missions by the U.S. Navy surpassed 10,000 combat flying hours supporting intelligence-gathering missions in the Middle East. The Broad Area Maritime Surveillance Demonstration (BAMS-D) aircraft are currently flying 15 missions a month and allow fleet commanders to identify and track potential targets of interest using a specialized suite of surveillance sensors.

U.S. Navy Accepts General Dynamics-built MUOS Ground Stations

The U.S. Navy has accepted three General Dynamics C4 Systems-built ground stations for the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS). General Dynamics C4 Systems led the development and delivery of the ground systems and MUOS communications waveform; Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor for the entire MUOS system. Navy personnel will now operate the stations.

Vietnamese homemade mini-submarine passed first trials successfully

After one week on trial, a private mini-submarine made by a Vietnamese mechanic can now work perfectly with its full functions. Nguyen Quoc Hoa, the one who performed the mini-submarine production, said on Local Lao Dong (Labor) online newspaper Thursday that machinery parts inside the mini-submarine operates well as originally designed.

U.S. Army is considering to replace some soldiers with robots to cut size of brigade

The United States Army is considering cutting down a brigade by 25 percent and replacing those soldiers with robots. General Robert Cone, head of the US Army’s Training and Doctrine Command, spoke at the Army Aviation Symposium last week about how the Army is considering cutting the size of a brigade from 4,000 to 3,000 soldiers.

Chinese Navy (PLAN) conducts amphibious drills on Paracel Islands

A PLAN flotilla centered around a Type 071 LPD (Yuzhao-class Landing Platform Dock) has completed a two-day amphibious drill off the Paracel Islands (also called Xisha Islands in Chinese and Hoàng Sa Islands in Vietnamese) on Wednesday. The flotilla undertook a "three-dimensional" patrol of several islets, using surface vessels, Type 726 LCAC (Yuyi class) and Z-8 helicopters.

USS Makin Island (LHD 8) Successfully Completes Sea Trials

USS Makin Island (LHD 8) completed a nine-day scheduled sea trials on Jan. 17, after coming out of a 13-month Phased Maintenance Availability (PMA). During the nine-day underway period, Makin Island crew members tested a number of shipboard systems, including communication circuits, damage control systems, navigation systems and propulsion plant. The crew also conducted full-power runs of the ship, ballasting demonstrations and flight operations.

Police of Nigeria to purchase 8 Springbuck IV 4x4 armoured vehicles from DCD South Africa.

Mekahog Limited awarded another contract to supply eight Springbuck APC's to the Nigerian Police. DCD PM will deliver these Springbuck IV variants by May 2013. A further order of 8 vehicles is secured and production is in progress. The vehicles will be built at the new DCD Protected Mobility facility in Isando.
